How to overclock your computer

This is Rajesh’s new affiliate/friend, Arbystrider. This is my first post about hardware hacking so don’t throw any bad comments at me or Rajesh. I’ve heard many people on the internet asking about computer problem: “My computer’s processor’s clock speed is 800MHz. I don’t have money to buy a new computer so what should I do so that I can run new programs without crashing my computer?”. The answer for this computer problem is simple:Overclocking. Overclocking means making your processor run at a higher speed than it really is.

Overclocking can only be done on motherboards without a “lock-down” function that the manufacturer has added into it. This prevents you from messing up with the BIOS settings because they don’t want to replace your computer in case it spoils while you play around with the settings. Only those big business motherboards have “Lock-down” features, such as HP, Asus, Intel and AMD (Unless you pay them like, US$8500 for that PC, which I don’t recommend). However, don’t worry, there are still some other ways of overclocking.

First, if you have a motherboard that DOESN’T have a “Lock-down” feature, you can increase the voltage and change the CPU Multiplier. Make sure you write down notes of what happens after you change the voltages or CPU multipliers so that you can experiment which is the best configuration. Be warned that if you tune your computer TOO high it may not function. But if your computer has a “Motherboard reset” button on it, you are safe.

If yours DOES have a “Lock-down” function, you can change your cooling system. Some experts/geeks/nerds use Liquid nitrogen to cool the CPU. You can use a regular water cooling system, just fill it up with Liquid Nitrogen instead of water or whatever blue liquid that came with the system. Then. You have to find a way to take out the radiator, because that will make the liquid nitrogen HOTTER, because Liquid Nitrogen’s boiling point is around -195°C, and the normal surroundings in the US is 22°C, and in Singapore, 28°C, so it makes no point to have a radiator for Liquid Nitrogen. Another way is to just clean your air cooling system, because there might be a LOT of dust. I recommend using compressed air, a vacuum cleaner, you can use a toothpick, or cotton swab, just make sure you have an antistatic band on.

Q: How do I find out what my REAL computer speed is?
A: Well, you can use CPU Speed Pro at www.majorgeeks.com (just search around).
